El iPhone 8 and 8 iPhone Plus They are the first iPhones to use glass as a case material since the iPhone 4s, a material change necessary to allow for wireless charging, but that has made many users wonder if the new iPhones are going to be resistant enough.
During the keynote on September 12, Apple assured that the glass used to manufacture its new iPhones is “the most resistant ever used in a smartphone”but is this true?
YouTube channel PhoneBuff tries to answer this question in a video in which the iPhone 8 Plus is subjected to a series of drop tests, comparing its resistance with the Galaxy Note 8, which is also made of glass.
During the video, we can see how both smartphones fall over and over again, starting with a test in which they fall on the back, and already in that first fall, although both phones continue to work perfectly, we see that the glass does not resist the fall and breaks.
From there, we see falls from different angles. When they do fall on the screen, the Galaxy Note 8 fares better, probably thanks to its rounded edges.
After these tests, both phones look pretty beat up, but are still fully functional, so the YouTuber decides to put them through an extra test, dropping them directly onto a steel pallet ten times. Here the Galaxy Note 8 also wins, since after the ten falls everything still works, except the camera.
However, in the case of the iPhone 8 Plus, after five drops, some pieces of glass begin to fall off the back, and in the number 8 drop, its screen no longer responds.
We leave you with the video, so you can see it for yourselves:
As you can see, the iPhone 8 Plus glass is quite shattered, even after the first drop, so it is certainly a good idea to use cases and screen protectors to protect it.
