Disable iPhone notifications

Notifications can be very cumbersome

Notifications can be of great help when we want to know if they have sent us an email, a Whatsapp or in certain applications such as the bank to find out when they have charged us a receipt. Notifications help us and remind us of events without having to go into each of the different applications.

However, sometimes they can be a nuisance. The more applications we have, the more notifications we will receive. Using the WhatsApp application as an example, if every time we receive a message the mobile phone has to notify us, we may get stressed. Some alternatives to this incessant noise may be to silence certain contacts from the application or directly mute apps in general. In other articles we tell you one of the best shortcuts to activate the do not disturb mode, today we will tell you all the possibilities to activate it.

Once we are clear that we want to silence notifications, we have to think about whether we want to do it on the iPhone, iPad and/or iPod touch. An alternative is the temporary silence of notifications since an indefinite deactivation may be detrimental to us. These cases are only useful for instant messaging applications or those that are very intensive in terms of reminders.

Disabling notifications on iPhone is very easy

Temporary deactivation of notifications

Apple allows us to silence notifications for an hour and for the whole day, is a mechanism built into iOS by default. To do this, we have to slide any application that we want to silence and slide to the left. Then we will click on options and select “Mute 1 hour” or “Mute today”. We can do this as many times as we want, it is very simple and requires little time.

To carry out the opposite process, many applications will invite us to reactivate them when we enter them. However, there will be other applications that will not ask us. In those last cases go to “Settings” and tap on “Notifications”. Select an app under "Notifications style". Under “Alerts”, choose the alert style you want. If you turn on “Allow notifications”, choose when you want notifications to be sent, immediately or in the scheduled notification digest.

With our iPhone we have several tools so that they do not bother us

Activate focus mode

Focus mode is relatively new since the release of iOS 15. To understand us, focus mode is a variant of do not disturb mode but that allows us to configure which specific applications we want not to bother us. That is, the concentration mode allows us to modify many more characteristics of our particular mode so that they do not bother us.

With this mode we can also configure what notifications we want to be displayed on the screen and what sound we want them to reproduce. The "Do Not Disturb" modes are: Driving, rest, exercise, game, reading, mindfulness, free time and custom.

Each of these modes has your own configuration, although you can also configure them to your liking. These options are very useful when, for example, we are driving or sleeping and we do not want anything to interrupt us.

Well, how do we go about activating one of these modes? First of all is access the control center sliding your finger from the top right of the screen. Next, click on the "Concentration" to show all the available modes. If we want to activate it until we deactivate it manually, click on it.

But, if we want to activate it for an hour, until the next day or until we leave where we are, click on the 3 horizontal points located to the right of the mode name. The icon of the set mode will be displayed on the top of the screen and on the lock screen. In this way, we will quickly know if we have a concentration mode activated and which one it is.

Create custom focus mode

If instead what we want to do is create our personalized focus mode, we have to go to "Settings", "Concentration modes" and click on the upper right corner. Once this is done we will go to "Custom" and "Create custom concentration mode. We have to create a name and an icon for this type of mode, as well as its corresponding color.

A list of sections will be displayed. First of all, in "Persons Allowed" we have to add those that we want to be able to communicate with us with the new mode. And if we do not want it to be nobody, we select "Nobody".

Clicking on allow will open the following window, which is the application window. As in the previous step, we have to select all those applications that we want to send us notifications and other types of notices while this mode lasts.

In section «Other Apps» we can check the “Important” box. This box will allow other applications not included in the allowed ones to send notifications marked as important. It is worth noting that this mode that we have created can always be edited, adding or deleting more applications. In addition, we can also configure the mode to activate and deactivate with an automation or based on a schedule.
