what is copilot

Copilot is an artificial intelligence system developed by Microsoft based on Codex, which is a new artificial intelligence system created by OpenAI. Codex is a descendant of the spectacular GPT-3 and one of the currently existing integrations of GPT-4, the new standard of the famous artificial intelligence.

Being a fork of ChatGPT, Copilot works through what is called LLM (Large Language Mode), which is a system capable of "translating natural language into code", that is, generating code from a description or a comment that you write to it.

And although you probably didn't know it, if you were a regular user of Microsoft's search engine, Bing, which we talked about a while ago and especially its AI-based application, you already know Copilot very well. More than anything because is the new name of the Bing IA section that existed a few months ago.

Why is it called Copilot?

Microsoft changed the name of its AI search engine from Bing IA to Copilot, basically because its evolution is to be a "co-pilot" AI for your entire software suite: Copilot is going to be integrated into both the search engine, Edge and the entire Office suite, opening the door to process automation that is going to be a revolution.

That is, we can ask Outlook to write us a commercial proposal that we can then personalize, Excel to do an analysis of an entire trend based on some data, or VS Code to program something for us, for example, without having to be attentive.

And although there is still a little bit left to start seeing those functions, but if you are curious about this you can check the Microsoft's own website all the possible uses of Copilot and why it will revolutionize the way we are productive.

Generate content from scratch

The wizard can help you write content for various purposes, such as writing articles, creating product descriptions, or writing professional emails.

You can ask the assistant to help you collect information on a specific topic and cite your sources. This can be very useful for those who are studying or researching, since it saves you the tedious task of consulting bibliographies.

Resolution of technical problems

If you encounter technical problems, you can ask Copilot to provide you solutions or steps to follow to solve the problem. For example, «I'm having problems connecting my printer to the Wi-Fi network. Can you help me with this?"

Planification and organization

The assistent can help you plan your day, week or even larger projects. You can also ask them to set reminders, create to-do lists, or propose schedules, and you could even ask them to do this planning to maximize your results or the productivity you expect to find from your work.

Learning Assistance

If you are studying a specific topic, you can ask the assistant to explain difficult concepts to you or provide you with additional examples to help you understand better. language translation

Copilot is particularly good for make highly reliable translations between languages, giving rise to texts that could appear to be translated by a professional and very far from the results we usually get in translation apps.

Generation of creative ideas

If you are looking for inspiration, you can ask the assistant to help you generate ideas for creative projects, company names or titles for an article. Generally it usually gives enough options so that you can start having your “Flow” creative.

Create images

Also you can ask Copilot to generate images for you through “an image generation program that only Copilot can consult”, which mysteriously works very similar to Dall-E 3.0.

Copilot on Mac: our opinion

opinion about copilot

For a while I have been using AI for different things: from documentation for work, such as writing emails for clients, various translations and even to be able to do a simple Arduino code project without having much of an idea and in that aspect, Copilot has been a great help for all these tasks.

And honestly, that's where I think AI should go: to increase our productivity and the quality of our work itself, to make us more competent and versatile. As a Microsoft 365 user for both work and life, I'm looking forward to seeing how Copilot expands to the entire Office suite and seeing how far it goes.

And you, Do you think Copilot will be a revolution? We would like to know your answer, so do not hesitate to leave a comment so we know what you think about Microsoft Copilot.
