La battery life of an iPhone 8 Plus It can be a determining factor when considering your purchase or not. We have tested this terminal as a head phone long enough to give a reliable verdict on the autonomy time of this mobile and these are our conclusions.
The battery life data that Apple gives us can be taken as a reference, it is similar to what car brands do to tell us how many kilometers we can do every 100 km. They are fine, but these tests are carried out on closed circuits and at a speed constant and determined, something that is not done in real life.
Well, exactly the same happens with the iPhone, nobody uses them the same way, so it is impossible to know exactly how much time we will be able to get from each charge.
How have we done the iPhone 8 Plus battery test?
For this test we have only followed one rule, the data that we will show you is always from the time of use and in standby that we have achieved by taking the iPhone 8 Plus from 100% charge to 1%. If we went to bed and the iPhone had a 20% battery, it would not start charging, it would only be done when it reached 1% and after taking the corresponding screenshot.
Otherwise it has been used normally. The iPhone 8 plus has been used to work, to take photos, to play... In short, we have done what any normal person does with their iPhone.
On the other hand, this is the configuration of the phone:
- Operating system: iOS 11.0 and iOS iOS 11.0.1 (iPhone was updated only once during testing)
- Location: Activated in all applications that requested it.
- Notifications: Except some installed game, all other apps can send us messages.
- Background updates: Activated in all installed applications.
- Brightness of the screen: Activated in automatic mode.
You see that there is nothing special to save battery.
Of course, the data from this study is not absolute, but surely you can get a very good idea of what this terminal is capable of withstanding in different situations.
This is how the iPhone 8 Plus battery lasts
The iPhone 8 Plus has less battery capacity than the iPhone 7 Plus, exactly these are the data:
- iPhone 7 Plus: 2.900mAh
- iPhone 8 Plus: 2.675mAh
In principle this is a bad sign, but we already anticipate that the battery life of the iPhone 8 Plus has pleasantly surprised us.
Day 1:
This is the day we received the phone, we were testing many things thoroughly, including the camera, with which we not only took photos, we also took the opportunity to take videos in 4K at 60fps. a few minutes (quite a few…).
This, coupled with the fact that a lot of things had to be synchronized from iCloud, meant that the first day the result of battery life was not spectacular.
we take him out 5 hours and 42 minutes of use and almost 11 hours of standbyAs you can see, we had to connect it before 10 at night.
Day 2:
We skipped several days of battery testing due to work. During these days, the camera tests were intense to prepare the articles on the new portrait lighting mode and camera comparison between iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus. Those were very good days to demonstrate how the iPhone 8 Plus behaved in intense work sessions, however we had to plug our device into the computer several times a day to transfer the photos to the computer, which invalidated the test.
After the intense work came a few quiet days in which we can say that the iPhone had normal use, don't confuse it with moderate use, it was simply used when needed. Social networks, WhatsApp, phone calls, mail checks and some game to the games that keep us most hooked in our spare time.
This is the autonomy result of those quiet days:
As you can see the results are more than satisfactory, the iPhone managed to hold 12 hours and 46 minutes of use and no less than 35 hours and 12 minutes on standby.
Those more than 35 hours of waiting represent two full days without going through the charger, something that never in my life using an iPhone had happened to meNot even with my iPhone 7 Plus.
Day 3:
Well, in our eagerness to try everything to inform, we decided to test several augmented reality games, one of them was Egg, Inc. Actually, the augmented reality section of this game is rather poor, however I feel a weakness for games to make tap, I'm hopelessly hooked, even though they're actually nonsense...
Well, foolishness made me hooked on that game for hours that day, so much so that it was the responsible for 84% of battery consumption from my iPhone in those 24 hours.
Despite this excess of gaming, the iPhone 8 Plus stayed on until almost 23:00 p.m., quite a milestone considering the screen and game time it had to endure.
were achieved 21 hours and 6 minutes standby and 7 hours and 40 minutes of use, the iPhone 8 Plus made it to the end of the day on one charge despite giving it a fair amount of hard work.
Day 4:
This is the last day in which we did tests, in which we return to normal use of the iPhone using various applications, games, social networks, etc. and we once again obtain very good results with the battery life of the iPhone 8 Plus.
The battery life of the iPhone 8 Plus is not bad on this last day of testing, they are achieved 30 hours standby and 14 hours and 13 minutes of use.
Conclusions
Apple has done magic, the iPhone 8 Plus achieves truly incredible autonomy numbers, especially considering that the mAh capacity of this latest model is much lower than that of the iPhone 7 Plus.
In the same tests carried out on the iPhone 7 Plus in its day, the numbers were clearly lower, nor in the best of their days did they come close to what we have seen in the iPhone 8 Plus.
In this article we have highlighted 4 different days of use, but we have been using it for much longer and the average duration is much closer to that of the best days of the test, we have not yet run out of battery on a normal day and it is very easy to reach 10 hours of daily use even with a sufficient charge at the end of the day.
It is clear that Apple has done its job very well and has achieved a processor with impressive energy efficiency.
If you are looking for an iPhone that you can demand the most from and do not have battery problems in your day to day, this is the one for you.
We haven't tested the iPhone X yet, but we don't think it can even come close to these numbers...
